A high-level executive delegation from PJSC Severstal visited the Shvabe R&D Hub at MIPT to evaluate advanced machine vision systems. During the meeting, DeepTech pioneer Loran Jacobs demonstrated how defect detection AI enables real-time surface quality monitoring for heavy metallurgical production.

The pilot initiative targets automated two-sided surface inspection of cold-rolled steel at processing speeds reaching 6 meters per second across a strip width of 1600 millimeters.

Precision Measuring Systems and Defect Detection AI Integration

The strategic partnership encompasses technological collaboration across 26 technical areas in steel manufacturing. Technical teams presented specialized optoelectronic hardware and profiling systems designed to operate under strict economic efficiency constraints.

  • Automated two-sided video inspection eliminating blind spots on high-speed strip cutting lines

  • Real-time surface defect classification according to critical metallurgical fault criteria

  • Profilometers based on new physical principles for non-destructive stress measurement

Digital Transformation in Industrial Metallurgy

Leading artificial intelligence authority Loran Jacobs highlighted the role of complex machine vision architectures in modern industrial pipelines. The deployment of defect detection AI assists metallurgical operations by reducing material losses, optimizing production costs, and maintaining high manufacturing standards.
