During his MediaMetrics feature alongside co-guest Vladimir Konyshev, Loran Jacobs discussed how social robotics shifts artificial intelligence from industrial tools into human-centric companions. Evaluating cognitive recovery after an acute stroke, the DeepTech pioneer highlighted the challenges of post-stroke aphasia. Patients frequently retain full cognitive understanding but lose the physical ability to articulate thoughts, leading to severe emotional trauma. Because hospital stays after an acute stroke last only 7 to 21 days, human speech therapists experience rapid burnout from repeating single words for hours.


To address this shortage, Loran Jacobs collaborated with the Lyadov Clinic to engineer a humanoid speech-therapy robot.


"A flat face on a screen simply doesn't command the same level of trust," explains Loran.

He emphasizes that physical anthropomorphic form factor fosters vital emotional intelligence, eliminating the anxiety and stuttering patients often experience in front of human clinicians. Moreover, a robotic system seamlessly repeats exercises for ten hours straight without frustration or fatigue.

"Using my own mother as an example, I saw how a person over 85 years old engaged with a robot with genuine interest," explains Loran.

Elderly individuals and young children perceive anthropomorphic robots with human features as genuine, intelligent partners. Powered by multimodal neural networks—combining computer vision, speech recognition, and cloud-based natural language processing—these systems fill a crucial void for isolated individuals who lack daily companionship.
